During Women’s History Month, we recognize the achievements of women who have made lasting contributions in their industries. In dermatology, Dr. Kimberly Werner Billet stands out as a dedicated professional with a remarkable journey in medicine, military service, and patient care. Her story is one of perseverance, leadership, and a deep commitment to providing exceptional medical and cosmetic dermatology treatments.
A Unique Path to Dermatology
Born in Korea and raised in Indonesia by artist parents, Dr. Billet developed an early appreciation for precision and beauty – which later played a role in her passion for dermatology. She excelled academically, graduating summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in Neuroscience and a minor in Biochemistry and Military Science.
Dr. Billet continued her medical education at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where her outstanding performance secured her a coveted dermatology residency. Before specializing in dermatology, she completed an intern year at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. She also served in primary care with an infantry unit at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in South Korea.
Upon returning to the U.S., Dr. Billet completed her dermatology residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. She then spent years providing medical and surgical care to soldiers, retirees, and their families at multiple U.S. Army bases.
A Leader in Dermatology and Patient Care
Beyond her military service, Dr. Billet has made significant contributions to the dermatology profession. She has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at prestigious events, including the American Academy of Dermatology conference.
